Israel Week in Camp Hilltop was simply phenomenal! On Tuesday, we followed a special schedule, participating in activities developed by our four amazing Israeli Shlichim: We learned all about life on a kibbutz and had fun pinning the tail on the cow and racing with an “egg” on a spoon; we learned about life in Jerusalem, land of gold, and loved making golden crowns; we danced joyfully to many Israeli songs; and finally, we survived Israeli army boot camp by successfully completing a very challenging obstacle course! The enthusiasm and love for Israel, our Jewish homeland, was felt all over campus. We got decked out in blue and white, waved Israeli flags with pride, and had stars of David painted on our faces!
An Israeli theme was also woven into all of the other regular activities for the week. To literally get a taste of middle eastern cuisine, our Little Chefs prepared delicious homemade hummus and a mouth-watering cucumber salad. In Arts and Crafts, the campers created necklaces out of “desert sand” . In Backyard Games, the children played favorites such as “3 sticks” and an Israeli version of hand soccer. Our Little Scientists were busy sowing seeds, as planting trees in Israel is a very special and meaningful endeavor.
This Kabbalat Shabbat we were thrilled to welcome our friends from Congregation M’kor Shalom, Rabbi Jennifer Frenkel, accompanied by special musical guest, Ms. Susanne Guinane. They helped us rev up our camp spirit for Ruach Week which is coming up next!
