Camp Shalom Week 4 2019

Creating a Camp Family with Camp Shalom!

We are at the half-way point! As the saying goes, “time flies when you are having fun” – and Camp Shalom is most definitely having a blast!

This week we celebrated Tu BiShvat, the Birthday of the Trees! Tu BiShvat is a Jewish holiday that occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Shevat. In contemporary Israel, the holiday is celebrated as an ecological awareness day and trees are planted in celebration.

Campers created leaf magnets in Arts & Crafts and nature-themed clay sculptures at Ceramics. At Digi Photo, campers made photo cups containing planted tree seeds to grow at home. Campers learned about and appreciated all aspects of nature, especially all of the natural beauty found right here at camp. At Music/Theater, campers discussed how theater is like a tree with actors being the roots that pass along the story. Campers wrote and acted out their own stories. Flower pots were decorated at Usable Arts and tree poses were learned at Yoga. At Nature, campers learned about ancient Hebrew farming techniques that are still used today to keep animals healthy. Campers at Master Chef baked yummy Tu BiShvat tree sprout cupcakes. At the lake, our campers are beginning to learn how to cast at fishing and campers are loving the new aqua park at Lake Inflatables. It was a hot week, so many water games were added to sports activities to keep everyone cool while having fun.

On Wednesday, everyone had a great time at our luau-themed Carnival Day. We had carnival games, special inflatables at the pool, karaoke and more!

Next week, we will celebrate Israel Week with Camp Shalom’s Israel Day on Wednesday. Our shlichot (Israeli emissaries) are planning a special, fun-filled day to share about their homeland with us.

Also, next week, Haifa and Eilat will have their Late Stay on Wednesday, July 24th. If you have not yet completed you child’s permission form, please log in to your Camp InTouch portal. Campers will have a fun evening of lake inflatables, sports and crafts, followed by dinner and dessert.

Looking forward to a fantastic Week 5!
