GESHER LIT’s Learning a Lot!
Our LITs had a great fourth week of Camp!
We began our week with a Gesher Philanthropy Initiative (GPI) program where the LITs learned about consensus, what it means, and how to work as a team using consensus to make decisions.
On Tuesday, we held our first out of camp Day of Caring and Sharing (DOCAS). 20 of our LITs traveled to New Visions Homeless Day Shelter. LITs played games, cleaned up the space, and sorted clothes. Rabbi Nathan led a discussion about dignity, and how each of them can play a part in fulfilling the Jewish directive to be a Light Among the Nations through social justice.
Wednesday, the LITs trekked up to Great Adventure and had a thrilling day on the rides. The LITs were happy to have a long day at the park and also eat dinner there.
On Thursday, we all let out our inner camper and played at the Camp Carnival. Our LITs also took on the additional responsibility of helping our Hilltop and Shalom Specialists with Midway Games.
We ended our week with a GPI session in which the LITs identified which causes they feel passionate about. Many of the LITs felt strongly about Hunger, Caring for the Environment, and Homelessness. We also read all of the grant proposals submitted for the GPI program.
Next week, we will travel to Hurricane Harbor and celebrate Israel Week at Camp.
