Am Yisrael Chai! Camp Hilltop learned all about life in our Jewish homeland this week. Our Little Chefs made and enjoyed many Israeli treats: hummus, pita, cous-cous, and kadorei shokolad (“chocolate balls”). In Arts and Crafts, the campers used sand art to meticulously decorate cards depicting Israel’s capital, Jerusalem. In Nature, our kids became archaeologists and embarked on an exciting dig! In Usable Arts, your children created beautiful paper lanterns to “light their way home.” On Thursday, the campers truly immersed themselves in Israeli culture by participating in activities planned by our wonderful shlichim. We spent time at the “Kotel,” learned a special song, irrigated the “Negev Desert,” created a Birkat Habayit (Blessing for the home), and enjoyed a honey-sweetened fruit salad representing “the land of milk and honey.” Earning puzzle pieces after completing each activity, the kids assembled a map of Israel they could keep. It was awesome to see how everyone got decked out in blue and white, complete with face paint to add to the spirit!
Next week promises tons of excitement! We will be enjoying a concert by 3Union, a band who recently attained “Celebrity Level” in America’s Got Talent! Show your spirit by participating in the fun dress code, and do a mitzvah by donating items that we are collecting to help others. We hope to see you at our Hilltop Family Night on Tuesday at ISC! Please send in your RSVPs!
