Gesher LITs – Week 3 – 2018
Gesher LIT’s Get Going!
Our LITs had a great week of learning at Camp!
On Monday, the LITs participated in our first Day of Caring and Sharing (DOCAS) program! The LITs worked together to make paracord survival bracelets and dog toys. The bracelets are made of survival materials that can hold up to 550lbs to donate to US troops, and they will be donating the braided dog toys to the Animal Welfare Association (AWA). The LITs have already completed almost 50 bracelets and even more dog toys.
Wednesday, we traveled to Hurricane Harbor. The LITs were happy to beat the heat at the water park. They had a fun day of splashing around in the wave pool and riding the slides.
On Thursday, the LITs came together for a program examining many different types of diversity. At this program, LITs examined the language we sometimes use to describe others who are different than us and examined our own biases. We then reflected on real-life camp scenarios about diverse people and families and discussed strategies for making camp a welcoming place.
On Friday, we ended our week smiling for the camera for our LIT picture. Our Social Justice Corps broke into smaller groups for the first time. In our groups, we learned about consensus, and worked together to find a definition of consensus that was meaningful to all. Then, the teens worked on a fun activity putting the consensus definition to use on Noah’s Ark. At the end of the period, the teens divided into groups again based on the causes they are passionate about and began discussing what they want to do for their projects.
Next week, we will have our LIT Overnight on Tuesday and travel to Dorney Park on Wednesday.
Shabbat Shalom!
