2018 – Camp Shalom – Week 7

Creating a Camp Family with Camp Shalom!

Even though the camp season is winding down, Camp Shalom is going strong!

During Week 7 we “visited” the city of Tzfat, located in the mountainous north of Israel.  Tzfat, known as the mystical capital of Israel, is known for its artists’ colony – a home to many storytellers and musicians.  It is also known as the Blue City, as many of its doorways and rooftops are painted blue to symbolize the closeness to heaven to ward off “evil” spirits.

At Master Chef campers baked delicious blueberry muffin-top cookies, incorporating the color blue into their baked treats.  Blue tambourines were created at Usable Art to celebrate Tzfat’s music culture.  In Ceramics campers sculpted Israel map puzzles and at Arts & Crafts campers created mandala designs.  In Mad Science, campers created their own kaleidoscopes.  At Digi Photo, campers photographed their own eyes to include in the center of a hamsa.  At Fishing, campers continue to enjoy catching, identifying, and releasing fish at the lake.  We love watching our campers on the sports fields, participating and showing good sportsmanship.

On Wednesday night, our theater campers performed Seussical Kids for the Camp Shalom Show.  They did a great job, and we are so proud of them!  We were also so impressed with the beautiful set and props, painted by the campers in Set Production.

On Friday, we kicked off Maccabiah Color War – a favorite camp tradition!  We can’t wait to see our teams participate in friendly competition throughout Maccabiah.

Looking forward to a great and final Week 8!
