Camp Shalom Week 1
Hello Camp Shalom families!
Welcome to camp! We are so excited to welcome your children this summer! We are making new friends and looking forward to all of the exciting activities in Camp Shalom.
This summer’s camp theme is Chaggim B’Kayitz (Holidays in the Summer). During Week 1, we learned about Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur, fall holidays that celebrate the Jewish New Year and are a time of reflection and forgiveness. These holidays – much like summers at Camp – are a time to start fresh with a clean slate. At Arts & Crafts campers created “clean slates” with chalkboards and wrote one new thing that they wanted to try at camp this summer. Apples and honey – symbols of a sweet new year – were sculpted at Ceramics, while at Mad Science campers entered the “Taste Lab” to explore sweet flavors and learn about how our sense of taste works. At Digi Photo, campers explored the concept of “reflection” using mirrored spheres in photos. Masks were created in Music/Theater to represent each campers’ personality and used to act out scenes to help campers get to know one another. Campers at Usable Art created beautiful name tags, and we baked delicious apple blondies at Master Chef Jr. Shalom campers also had a great time at Nature greeting the animals, fishing at the lake, playing sports, swimming, and so much more!
Camp Shalom campers look forward to their annual Late Stay. These are an opportunity for each age group to stay at camp for a special evening activity, dinner, and fun! Our Late Stay dates are as follows:
- Jerusalem/Tel Aviv – Wednesday, July 10
- Haifa/Eilat – Wednesday, July 24
