Camp Shalom – Week 6 – 2019

Creating a Camp Family with Camp Shalom!

Camp Shalom had a terrific Week 6! From Ahoy Matey Monday to Camp Pride Friday, our campers showed lots of Ruach (Spirit) throughout the week.

This week we continued our celebration of “Holidays in the Summer” with Purim. Purim is a joyous holiday that recounts the saving of the Jews by Queen Esther. It is traditionally celebrated with costumes, parties and the giving of gifts to friends and the poor.

In Arts & Crafts, campers decorated crowns, while photos were taken with a variety of Purim masks at Digi Photo. Hamantaschen, triangular-shaped, filled cookies typically eaten during Purim, were baked at Master Chef with delicious fillings to choose from. At Mad Science, campers learned about optical illusions and visual perception to demonstrate that things are not always what they seem – much like part of the celebration of Purim when you are not supposed to be able to distinguish between the hero and the villain. At Music/Theater, campers used sock puppets and improv to retell the Purim story. Face masks were created at Usable Art. Our campers are keeping cool on the sports field, with water added to many activities. At Nature, campers are enjoying the animals in the petting zoo and exploring the nature trails.

On Wednesday, our Masada and Dimona campers had so much fun at their Late Stay – the last one of this camp season!

Our Theater and Set Production campers have been working hard all summer to prepare for the Camp Shalom Show. Please come out to see their wonderful performance of High School Musical Jr. on Wednesday, August 7 at the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill. The show begins at 7pm (doors open at 6:45pm).

We can’t wait for Week 7!
