Camp Shalom Week 3 2019

Creating a Camp Family with Camp Shalom!

Hello Camp Shalom families!

Camp Shalom had a blast this week! The camp theme was Hanukkah – a camper favorite!! Chanukah, or the Festival of Re-dedication, celebrates the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem after it was destroyed in ancient times. Celebrated in December, Chanukah is a joyous holiday that is also known as the “Festival of Lights.”

At Arts & Crafts campers created “stained glass” dreidels, and at Ceramics model magic was used to sculpt unique menorah-shaped puzzles. Photo tea lights were created at Digi Photo to light during Chanukah. Since Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights, campers at Mad Science created circuits to power a light bulb. At Music/Theater, campers learned about their most important instrument – their voices! Campers used oil paints of candles at Usable Art, oil being an important Chanukah symbol. At Yoga, campers created menorah poses and talked about gratitude. Lots of fish and turtles were caught at the lake and our campers continue to have fun at Nature with all of the animals. Good sportsmanship continues to be shown on the sports fields.

The Friends of the Israel Scouts Tzofim Friendship Caravan visited camp on Tuesday and put on a great show, and we loved seeing everyone’s school pride for Wacky Wednesday School Spirit Day! On Thursday, we were all smiles for Picture Day!

Our Jerusalem & Tel Aviv campers had an incredible time at their Late Stay on Wednesday evening! It’s always fun to stay at camp “after hours” and have more time to enjoy lake activities, crafts, sports and dinner. We can’t wait for Haifa and Eilat’s Late Stay on Wednesday, July 24th and Masada and Dimona’s Late Stay on Wednesday, July 31st. If you have not already done so, please log into your Camp InTouch portal and complete your child’s permission form.

We can’t wait for Week 4 and Carnival Day next week!

B’Shalom,
