GESHER LIT’S WEEK 3
Our LITs had a great week of learning about Respect (Camp Theme) and Diversity (LIT Theme) at Camp!
On Monday, we began our week smiling for the camera for our LIT picture. We also asked the LITs who was interested in helping plan the overnight next week and we were wonderfully surprised by the large number of teens interested. The LITs met during the week to plan an awesome event for everyone next week.
On Tuesday, the LITs came together for a program examining many different types of diversity. At this program, LITs examined the language we sometimes use to describe others who are different than us, and examined our own biases. We then reflected on real-life camp scenarios about diverse people and families at camp, and discussed strategies for making camp a welcoming place.
Wednesday, we traveled to Hurricane Harbor. The LITs were happy to beat the heat at the water park. They had a fun day of splashing around in the wave pool and riding the slides.
We ended our week with our fourth session of the Gesher Philanthropy Initiative (GPI). We worked as one team to finish writing our Mission Statement of GPI. Our Mission Statement will help the LITs decide how they wish to allocated their grant later this summer. We also learned about Consensus. The LITs worked together find a definition of consensus that was meaningful to them. They then worked on a fun activity putting the definition to use on Noah’s Ark.
This week, we also learned about the mitzvot of Challah. On Thursday, many of our LITs worked together to make 10 batches of Challah dough, which we let rise overnight. On Friday, we spoke with about the importance of Challah in Jewish Life. We then braided our Challah dough, and we hope you all enjoy it this evening.
Next week, we will have our LIT Overnight on Tuesday and travel to Dorney Park on Wednesday.
Shabbat Shalom!
