Gesher 2019 Week 3

GESHER LIT’s GET GOING!

Our LITs had a great week of learning at Camp!

On Tuesday, the LITs participated in our first in-camp Community Service project! The LITs worked together to make paracord survival bracelets, and stress balls. These bracelets are made of survival materials that can hold up to 550lbs, and the stress balls are for our campers to use in the Open Hearts/ Open Doors program. The LITs have already completed almost 20 bracelets and 50 stress balls.

Wednesday, we traveled to Hurricane Harbor. The LITs were happy to beat the heat at the water park. They had a fun day of splashing around in the wave pool and riding the slides.

On Thursday, the LITs came together for a program with an outside speaker. Mandi Dorrell worked with the teens to know when a friend is in trouble, how to ask them the appropriate questions and get help. The teens engaged in the program and were happy to learn skills that will be helpful for the rest of their lives.

On Friday, we ended our week smiling for the camera for our LIT picture. After our picture, we had our LIT Shabbat program and focused on inclusion and diversity. At this program, LITs examined the language we sometimes use to describe others who are different than us and examined our own biases. We, then, reflected on the language we use and how we can better think before we speak to our friends and others.

Next week, we will have our LIT Overnight on Tuesday and travel to Dorney Park on Wednesday.

Shabbat Shalom and have a great weekend!
