A Video Message from Sara and Jared: Looking back on Summer 2020 and MOVING FORWARD

B’Shalom,
Sara and Jared

STAFF HIGHLIGHT- A Bullseye with Jack Smart!

This summer, we had the honor of working with a small, dedicated team of specialists to provide programming for both Summer Fun and Family Camp Days.  Thanks to Family Camp, parents got to see in our specialists truly in action for the first time, and one of the most shared pieces of feedback from families was that Jack Smart, Archery Specialist, is a true hidden gem.

Jack has been a part of the JCC Camps at Medford staff family for 15 years as the Archery Specialist and a counselor in the Gilad division for entering 5th graders.  Jack is a USA Archery Level 2 certified instructor and loves teaching campers how to safely shoot arrows at a target.  Jack is a phenomenal instructor and teaches life skills through his archery sessions- patience, calm, hand and eye coordination, and even math skills through scoring.  One of our favorite moments at camp with Jack was during our last ACA re-accreditation visit.  Our review visitor loved Jack’s safety procedures and organization of the archery range so much that she ended up spending an hour taking an archery lesson with him!

Jack is a graduate of Temple University and has worked for MetroMedia Radio in Philadelphia at WIP-AM.  He later earned his teacher certification and is currently working at Voorhees Middle School.

Jack also loves hockey, attending Lehigh Valley Phantoms hockey games, and working as a photography editor for a Philadelphia Flyers hockey photographer.

FACILITY UPDATES

We are so fortunate to have an incredibly talented facilities director and crew.  They used every available moment this past summer to make facility updates to our campus.  They have done a beautiful job giving a facelift to our Geza, Dining Hall, Aaron Changing Room, and Masada/Dimona bathrooms.  Additionally, they have given the entire Anaf/Bayit pavilion a facelift with a new color and new siding.  Ken, Tim, Joe, Damian, Steven, and Josh…thank you for ALL you did this summer to beautify camp!

GIBORIM 2021

Because we were not able to use our Judaic curriculum for Summer 2020, we are THRILLED to use it for Summer 2021!  This summer’s theme is even more appropriate this year…Giborim/Heroes!

We are honored to work with so many community heroes who have stepped up in the face of great adversity this year.  Our community’s doctors, nurses, teachers, mental health workers, supermarket employees and more have worked tirelessly during the Covid-19 pandemic and can all be considered true heroes.  We are blessed to have so many of these heroes as part of our camp families and camp staff.  Thank you for all you have done and all you will continue to do for our community!

In honor of these community heroes, we will introduce the heroes of our 2021 Judaic curriculum and the values they represent over the next seven months.  Stay tuned!
