Specialty Camps Week at JCC Camps at Medford

Summer 2018 Session: August 20-24

The JCC Camps at Medford is excited to offer one week intensive camp experiences after the regular camp season ends.  If your child would like to take a deeper dive into an area at camp they love or try something totally new, they can join us August 20-24.  Our goal is to inspire campers to grow, learn and explore interests in a challenging and fun environment.

Location: All specialty camps will be held at the JCC Camps at Medford campus, 400 Tuckerton Road, Medford, NJ 08055

Transportation: Round trip transportation provided daily from the Katz JCC in Cherry Hill, or option to drop-off and pick-up at camp.  Bus departure from JCC at 9 AM and return at 4 PM.

Extended Care: Options for either AM extended care, PM extended care, or both.

  • Early care starting at 7:15 AM at the Katz JCC- $30/ week
  • Late care until 6:15 PM at the Katz JCC- $30/ week
  • Both early and late care- $50/ week

Lunch and Snack: Kosher lunch and snack is provided daily.  We are a nut aware and allergy friendly program.  Children are not permitted to bring any products containing nuts onto the bus or campus.

Registration and Cancellation Policies: Some programs have a maximum number of campers permitted.  A minimum of 6 campers is required to hold any particular camp.

Creative Arts
This camp experience is perfect for the art enthusiast and those that want to explore their creativity. Campers will spend the week exploring various art mediums, including Japanese paper marbling, photo transfers to ceramics, ink tiles, and others. Each day will feature a different project to inspire campers to create art that is unique to them.

Adventure Challenge

Love the adventure of the ropes course, challenge to hit a bullseye, or fun of hiking?  Spend an intense week of climbing and self-discovery through these exciting activities and more.  High ropes challenges include conquering our map of Israel climbing wall, mastering the second platform on the leap of faith and traversing the multiple floating islands!  Low ropes activities will include working as a team to ski the ropes course, pushing limits to master our low wall and braving the suspended log element.  Archery and nature hikes are infused into the program, as well.

10-13 year olds for the high ropes track (entering 5th-8th grades)

Teenpreneur, Inc.

JCC Camps at Medford has teamed up with Teenpreneur Inc. to offer a week-long specialty camp in business entrepreneurship. This program embraces entrepreneurial thinking and encourages young minds to become cutting-edge thinkers, and lets them take the lead in creating innovative ideas to build their own businesses. Students will go from idea generation to presentation of their prototype and business plan under the guidance of the facilitators and developers of the program. Campers will have the opportunity to meet with successful entrepreneurs as well. Culinary

Junior chefs and aspiring foodies can make friends, learn kitchen fundamentals, and have fun cooking up tasty and exciting meals in this hands-on, weeklong program that is sponsored in part by ShopRite and the Ravitz family. During each session, participants will work alongside professional chefs and registered dietitians to learn basic cooking skills and techniques while tasting and sampling delicious, creative culinary meals that they’ll also enjoy recreating at home.

Robotics -1

Using the Lego Education WeDo.2 robotic sets with supplemental software, campers will solve real world problems and program robots.  Campers will learn robotics basics and be challenged with tasks for their robots to complete.  LilBits, robotics and circuitry are blended in 8 different challenges for campers to interchange and reuse.

Robotics -2

Using LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Core Set, this system includes the EV3 Intelligent Brick, a compact and powerful programmable computer that makes it possible to control motors and collect sensor feedback using intuitive icon-based programming and data logging software.  Campers will create their own robots and be challenged to perform both simple and complex tasks.

3-D Printing

Bring a design to life with a 3-D printer. From conception to reality campers can design, print, and show off their creation. Campers will explore the design process with a course specially designed for campers to learn the basics.  Simple shapes can turn into toys, prototypes, models and even jewelry. No design experience necessary.

Drones

With the combination of interactive, guided tutorials, puzzles and DIY projects, campers will write code to program a drone by solving puzzles, collaboration, and exploration. The activity builds on STEM concepts such as art, geometry, and science. Fundamental computer science concepts will be the basis of the student-made programs..

Handwork

Campers will have the opportunity to explore the world of needle arts while working on a wide array of unique projects.  Campers will learn useful skills such as hand-sewing, embroidery, knitting, weaving, needle-felting, and much more!  Campers are always free to express themselves and are enveloped in creativity and fun.  Whether refining skills or learning brand new ones, this camp is sure to delight.

Fashion Design and Machine Sewing

Whether you are an aspiring fashion designer or a creative camper looking for new skills, immerse yourself in the wonderful world of machine sewing!  Designed with older campers in mind, this program is all about choice and creative expression.  Campers will be taught how to read and use a wide variety of Simplicity Creative Group patterns.  In addition to a catalogue of over 20 patterns, campers get to choose from dozens and dozens of bolts of tempting fabrics to bring individual style and flare to every creation.

Football

It’s Football Fit for Kids ages 6-14! Learn to run, throw, catch & play within safe, non-contact or flag instruction. It’s a Pro Sports Experience for Kids.  Featuring professional, Pro Sports Experience Coaches with Philadelphia NFL Alumni Heroes such as Fred Barnett, Bill Bergey, Garry Cobb, Mke Schad, William Thomas or Brandon Whiting.  Learn to Play the NFL Alumni Hero Way!!

Circus of the Kids

The only program of its kind, world-renowned CIRCUS OF THE KIDS specializes in taking ordinary youngsters and turning them into fire-eaters, trapeze artists, and trick bicyclists.
