We want the very best for you this summer.
With careful thought and much sadness, we have made the difficult decision to cancel traditional in-person programming for Summer 2020 at the JCC Camps at Medford.
Below are resources, details, and opportunities for our JCC Camps at Medford community to come together and support one another during this time. Please see our heartfelt video message below:
Are you planning any programming for Summer 2020?!
YES! We know how much our camp families love the JCC Camps at Medford, and we find ways to engage throughout the camp season. We will be sharing information about virtual activities in the coming weeks. In addition, please look out for information from us about ways that your family will be invited to come and enjoy an in-person camp experience, if and when we are permitted by the state’s phases of reopening.
Why was the decision made not to open camp for Summer 2020?
Please know that this decision is as devastating to us as it is to our JCC Camps at Medford family. We have been working night and day, trying to create a physically distanced camp experience that would fall within the guidelines and recommendations. But as these guidelines and restrictions became a harsh reality on the things we normally take for granted like transportation, group gatherings, swim, and so much more, it was clear that camp in 2020 would not be the place we have known and loved for close to 80 years. More importantly, it cannot be the safe environment that we strive to provide. In the end, we are not willing to risk the safety and well-being of our beloved campers and staff. You are all are just too important to us, and it would go against a core Jewish value of pikuach nefesh¸ saving a life.
Why didn’t you wait longer and attempt to hold a shortened camp season?
There are several reasons why we made the decision at this time, to cancel traditional camp for the entire season.Based on the state of New Jersey’s phases of reopening, even a modified, physically distanced camp experience falls within Phase 3. As we are not yet even in Phase 2, it could be many weeks before we would even know if we could reopen. We did not feel that it was fair to make parents wait any longer to figure out their summer childcare needs. We know that many of you will need to find babysitters for the summer so that your children can be cared for while you go back to work.We felt it was necessary to release our staff and allow them to pursue other opportunities for the summer, whether it be other work or summer classes. It was not fair to ask our staff to hold onto these commitments any longer.
What are camp’s refund policies for Summer 2020 tuition?
Based on the cancellation of camp for Summer 2020, we will incur a major deficit for the fiscal year ending September 30. This is a devastating financial situation for the JCC Camps at Medford and the Katz JCC as a whole.
Please CLICK HERE to go to your Camp InTouch Portal, click on Forms and Documents, and fill out the form entitled Summer 2020 Cancellation Form. The form will allow you to select from the following options for you and your family for Summer 2020. Please complete this form by Wednesday, June 3.
- You will have an opportunity to convert some or all of your tuition payments into a philanthropic gift to ensure the future of the JCC Camps at Medford. You will receive an acknowledgement email for tax purposes.
- You will be able to choose to put all tuition paid on your account as a credit toward Summer 2021. If you choose to receive a credit for all tuition paid, then you will have the benefit of locking in the 2019 camp rates for Summer 2021, an approximate savings of 8%. If you have only paid a deposit or choose to only keep your deposit on as a credit, then you will have the benefit of locking in the 2020 camp rates for Summer 2021. We are offering these tuition rates as a thank you for leaving your money with the JCC until our next camp season.
- You can choose to receive a refund for any tuition paid for Summer 2020. We will do our best to process refunds as quickly as possible, however, we will send out refunds as soon as cash flow allows. Because we are part of a larger agency, and we start planning camp in the fall, we have numerous expenses that occur all year. Refunds may be processed in incremental payments
I want to help! How can I donate to camp?
If I have chosen a credit to my account, is my child automatically enrolled for Summer 2021?
We so appreciate you keeping your money with us for next season. We will send an email to all camp families when our 2021 registration is live on our website. All families will still need to complete the online registration.
We also welcome additional donations from all camp families, alumni and friends. Please CLICK HERE in order to make an online donation. For more information about donating to the JCC Camps at Medford, please contact Brian Adler, Development Director, at badler@fedsnj.org or call (856) 424-4444 x1283.
When will I receive my refund?
We are committed to refunding 2020 tuition for all families that make that request. We need time to review ALL of our families’ requests and determine the total amount. Once we have that answer, we can make determinations as to the method and timetable for issuing those refunds. We ask for your patience through this process.
When will registration open for Summer 2021?
We hope to open registration for Summer 2021 by the beginning of August. Once we open registration, all families who have chosen to put a tuition credit on their accounts will still need to fill out a registration form. All other families will be able to register and pay their Summer 2021 deposit at that time.
What if were new to camp for Summer 2020?
For all new camp families for Summer 2020, we will honor your $250 new camp family discount for Summer 2021.
What if this was my child’s LIT summer?
You will receive a refund of any tuition paid or can choose to put a credit on your JCC account toward membership or programming. Your teen will receive an email in the fall with information about how to apply for Summer 2021 employment.
What if my child is a part of the Open Hearts/ Open Doors program?
All children already accepted into the Summer 2020 OH/OD program will be re-accepted for Summer 2021. You will just need to fill out your camper registration as usual and fill out an OH/OD paperwork sent to you over the winter. Your child will not need a new school visit.
